Apart from this bold move (I have to constantly remind myself that I'm not a pauper while keeping at bay the feeling that I may well become destitute) I eventually completed the process of converting the print version of my book into an e-book having carefully studied a 70 page (not 25 page) manual. Now, I can offer this service to others and am in the process of opening a 'Service' page on this website. Things like this are now my JOB !!! and what will pay for my food. I no longer have the money I got from selling 2 Short Street as a back-up in case my income-generating activities don't bear fruit.
Finding the flat was a completely serendipitous event. I had been considering building a flat above my mother's garage to create some distance between us and in the hope that this would allow me to work at home. This was my plan despite the thought of dealing with builders and walking up stairs every day (I have no meniscus in either of my knees). My friend, Gillian (Marshall) and I went for our bi-weekly walk on the beach with Charlie. We always take my mother's car as Charlie is her dog and so it is only right she should have to deal with all the sand in her car. It's a standing joke among us. When we returned, Charlie refused to get out the car (something he regularly does) and I left the car door open and went inside the house. The next morning I noticed the door was still open (Charlie had come inside the previous night) and I wondered if it would have affected the battery of my mother's car. That evening I took her car for a spin, literally around the block, and taking a route I don't normally travel. That's when I saw the sign for a flat for sale in Warwick Street. I emailed the agent, went to have a look on the Thursday, took my mum for a look on the Friday and put in an offer on the Saturday. It was rejected but we eventually settled on an amount (R590 if you're interested) on the Monday. Since then, panic has set in but as my friend Lesley said the other night over sushi: I just have to trust that everything will work out. Wish me well in my new life and independence once more!!!
P.S. Here's how you can order the e-book http://www.smashwords.com/books/search?query=Ziehl
